Obamania

While some designers have no choice but to report grim economic news, there are a few lucky designers that have received their own stimulus checks in the form Michelle Obama.   America's favorite fashion icon was spotted again in a fairly less mainstream designer.  The lucky label?  Sophie Theallet.  Sophie's collection has been causing a major buzz within the closets of all the major magazines and Style.com had profiled them as a collection to watch last season. The line has already been getting major accolades and most recently this same dress was featured in a NY Times Style article (see image below).

Of course,no accolade is bigger than Ms. O wearing your designs (sorry Vogue).  The designer may seem random but when you look at the facts, its far from it.

Sophie used to assist Azzedine Alaia and used all African-American designers in her runway show.  If you think that's already enough to persuade the First Lady to wear you designs, think again.  WWD reports that Sophie and her team sent the dress to Ikram Goldman's Chicago boutique.  Ikram may be the one women who seems to have the golden touch of influence on Michelle.  Are you listening, Oscar?

I have to say, its refreshing for designers to want to dress someone so positively influential rather than throwing their clothes on a post-rehab, emaciated starlet (sorry, Lindsay).  Maybe there's a change on the horizon?

xoxo,

SG
