New Mogul on the Horizon?

WWD is reporting that Rachel Roy just linked up with Macy's for a new contemporary line due out in August.  Sounds like Ms. Roy is seemingly looking to build a mini-empire.  The line will not only have apparel, but also feature footwear, jewelry, and other accessories.

While some designers are trying to keep their price point high while expanding their brand (Derek Lam and Zac Posen both debuted ad campaigns for the first time), Rachel's choice to hit the masses seems like the key to really building a major fashion brand.  Every designer that has chosen to do a contemporary line (Michael by Michael Kors for example) has kept the integrity of their luxury clientele while being successful in the lower-end market.

Let's just hope Rachel learned the good from the bad from ex-hubby Damon Dash so it doesn't end up like this.

xoxo,

SG
