1 Item, 3 Ways, 2 Big Promotions

- When worn as a dress, this piece reminds me of the gypsy jet set life. I did a DIY turban with a scarf from LOFT (more on that later)

Look 3: Rock Some Edge

- Maxis have been popular lately when worn in an urban, edgy, and almost gothic way. Animal print wedges and a Leviticus body chain make this a street style shot waiting to happen.

I have a serious obsession with crosses lately. I've always been obsessed with religious iconography and there is something about wearing crosses that makes me feel transported back into another time. I love this particular necklace because it's an exaggerated take on the trend.

Let me take a minute to address the longer hemline. Ever since maxi skirts came dancing down the Fall '10 runways I've felt compelled to work them into my rotation. The New York Times style section also just ran a piece about them HERE. They describe the style perfectly: "long, lean, and willowy" and who doesn't want to be that? They also make the distinction that it isn't a demure or hippie look, but rather more urban. Bingo.

CW Denver

Just finished up a segment in Denver on "Dressing Slimmer" and I'm pretty excited that I have Internet on the plane! Wish I had more time in the city, but I was in and out in a matter of 12 hours.

There are tricks to create the illusion of a long, lean, tall body without having to buy a whole new wardrobe every season. When you walk up to your closet every morning, you should be filled with options that fit your body type and flatter your figure. If you continuously buy pieces that are trendy but don't enhance your shape, then you will be stuck with a closet full of things that you just don't want to wear.

Here's a recap of some of my talking points:

* Don't be afraid of color and prints. I showed a Trina Turk printed top that has a built in waistband so that your shape does not get lost. Showing off your waist is the easiest way to look thinner.

* Every girl should own a pair of dark denim jeans. Choose a clean pair of dark denim, meaning no whiskers, no sandblasting... Pick a cut that flatters your figure. Curvier girls look best in a bootcut or flare to balance out the hip area. Girls that are naturally lean and blessed not to have hips can carry a skinny jean.

*Body Slimmers are your friends- Heightened fabric technology has made body slimmers almost invisible and extra comfortable. I recommended a 3/4 sleeve top by Slimpressions

*Invest in a nude shoe. Not only do they make your legs look miles long, but you can wear them with almost anything in your closet. I used a pair from Aldo and I love them because they are a classic platform pump that can work for day, night, and any season.

* Always think about how to lengthen yourself. There is a reason why designers use very tall models to show off their clothes. A long cardigan with a deep v-neck gives the illusion of a longer torso. I used a cute boyfriend cardi from White and Warren to show this.

The Cutest Way to Stay Connected: Pokens!

This is where the nerdy, techy side of me comes out. Y'all knew it was there.. How else do you think all of these posts make it to the site?

It all started when I interviewed Colette Malouf a few weeks back and she gave me one of these little guys as a parting gift. Other than being the cutest things I've ever seen, they serve an amazing social media purpose.

You see, I have a little bit of a hard time managing all of the business cards that I get when I'm out and about and business cards just aren't interactive enough for today's click it world. So instead, I load up all of my links from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc on my Poken and all you do is touch Pokens together to transfer information!

Then, when you plug the Poken into your computer, a program pops up that manages all of your contacts even down to the day that you met them. Amazing.

1 Blazer, 3 Ways

Some of the best pieces in my closet are pieces that can really go the distance and work for any occasion. When White & Warren sent me this sweater blazer, I started throwing it on with everything. For $185 it makes a great basic, and neutral basics are the foundational key to having a great wardrobe.

Here's why this blazer can go the distance:

The sweater material makes this blazer work well for a casual look. Inspired by the grey color, I kept the look clean, crisp, and monochromatic. The material makes it relaxed and slouchy, yet still pulled together.

To make this blazer work for a work environment I belted my waist to give it a more structured shape. This is a fun twist on a conservative look. The length of the dress is longer and the pearl strand necklace makes it more sophisticated.

Since the blazer is sweater material, I mixed sequins in to add shine and glamour for night. Pairing a blazer with a mini skirt plays around with a cute masculine/feminine look, and I love the mix of textures.

Steal Her Saucy Style

I love this look on Rihanna! I'm so used to seeing her look really edgy, but here you can see her Barbados island roots shining through. A straw hat, a pair of printed shorts, and a detailed white blouse couldn't be more perfect for summer.

I opted for a sleeveless shirt rather than a long sleeve because all of that would have overwhelmed me. I also toned down the accessories and skipped the hoop earrings and bracelet in exchange for a simple gold watch. With a print and ruffles, too many accessories would be too much.

Target has some really fun beachy accessories at the moment and I'm counting down the days until the Cynthia Vincent collection hits this week. Also, if you check back later in the week I will have a discount code for Catherine Malandrino!

If you remember a few weeks ago I told you all about my new partnership with Open Sky. Well, I've been busy sourcing products for my new Shop and after traveling over 50 hours on a plane within a span of a week and a half, I had to add this latest product.

My skin is still super dry from the recycled air and I'm tired of TSA rules forcing me to pack my makeup in my checked luggage. I always say that if you stay refreshed during the flight then you arrive refreshed at your destination.
