Detroit City

Photobucket

Photobucket
Top: Ann Taylor, Necklace: Ann Taylor LOFT, Skirt: Zara, Shoes: H&M

A quick trip to Detroit has come to a close and I just got bumped up to first class on my flight back! That never ever happens to me. I didn't get to see much of Detroit, but I did pass by the Ford headquarters, felt patriotic for about 2 seconds, then moved on. I also just got a tripod so I can always take pictures no matter where I am (yay!)

This was my outfit for the FOX segment from this morning. I love the texture in this skirt and the shape is so fun. I've had this skirt for a few seasons and it still makes my outfit rotation and looks really cute on camera. I always try to wear a jewel tone color when I have tv things...it's a little tip I picked up from the show with the prettiest tv audience around: Oprah. They are all told to wear jewel tones and the colors really do pop on camera.

Will post the link for the segment later when I get back to NY!

1 Item, 3 Ways, 2 Big Promotions

Photobucket

Time for another round of "1 item, 3 ways". This White & Warren skirt gets my vote for one of the most versatile pieces around. Not only is it on trend (yea maxis!), but it also doubles as a dress and can fit any style that you are trying to achieve.

Here's my twist on this seriously cool basic:

Look 1: Classic
- Anything maxi has the ability to look elegant and evening so I paired the skirt with a light weight button down and a wide belt. When I put this together I thought of designer Carolina Herrera.. She has perfected the button down/skirt outfit. The panama hat makes it more wearable for daytime.

Look 2: Gypset Festival
- When worn as a dress, this piece reminds me of the gypsy jet set life. I did a DIY turban with a scarf from LOFT (more on that later)

Look 3: Rock Some Edge
- Maxis have been popular lately when worn in an urban, edgy, and almost gothic way. Animal print wedges and a Leviticus body chain make this a street style shot waiting to happen.

Here's the exciting part! This skirt is 20% off in my OpenSky Shop, which means it is only $60! That's a serious steal. Enter MAXI20 when entering check out to get the discount

AND after you grab up the maxi skirt, jump on over to White & Warren's online shop where you get 30% off any tops and tees to go with the skirt! ENTER CODE SAUCY30 to get the discount

The promotion starts Monday and goes through Thursday, June 10th!

A few months ago I did a shoot with Japanese magazine PS Pretty Style and I finally received my copy yesterday! I love this magazine because the styling is really inventive, creative, and fearless. After reading all of these Japanese magazines I am dying to go to Tokyo!

It was also great to be featured with Rumi from Fashion Toast and Alix from The Cherry Blossom Girl. It's so fun to see everyone's different styles and I get tons of inspiration from both of them.

Thanks to PS for the feature!

Bright Idea

Photobucket
On me: Top: Walter, Shorts: Cynthia Steffe, Shoes: Bebe
On Riley: pink collar with gold sea shells

Hi friends! Sorry I have been lacking on the posting this week. I took on some freelance work for a mag, but never fear, I will be posting regularly again starting this weekend!

This month I'm featured in PS (Pretty Style) Magazine in Japan and this was one of the shots taken for the issue. I'm not sure what pics made the cut yet because I haven't received my copy but I can't wait to show you!

This is my niece Riley the puggle.. Also known as pugglicious, Mrs. pugglesworth, and wrinkle face. She is very photogenic and doesn't feel pressure to get botex as she embraces her wrinkles. We can all learn something from her.

Outfit wise, I love pairing bright colors together! It gives off a very sporty chic, color blocked look. When pairing bright colors together I always pair items together that have the same saturation and tone. That way, you won't look like walking visual noise. It's also good to throw in some grey tones to balance out the bright colors.

Henri Matisse puts it best by saying: "When I have found the relationship of all the tones the result must be a living harmony of all the tones, a harmony not unlike that of musical composition"

Happy Friday!

I have a serious obsession with crosses lately. I've always been obsessed with religious iconography and there is something about wearing crosses that makes me feel transported back into another time. I love this particular necklace because it's an exaggerated take on the trend.

I actually love it so much that I put them in my OpenSky Shop! At under $200 this necklace is a very affordable statement piece. You can click the image to purchase!

Let me take a minute to address the longer hemline. Ever since maxi skirts came dancing down the Fall '10 runways I've felt compelled to work them into my rotation. The New York Times style section also just ran a piece about them HERE. They describe the style perfectly: "long, lean, and willowy" and who doesn't want to be that? They also make the distinction that it isn't a demure or hippie look, but rather more urban. Bingo.

Let the summer begin! I love Memorial Day weekend... It is always full of optimism and excitement because you know that the next few months are going to be amazing. I always head down to my beach house in Stone Harbor, NJ and it is heaven.

These shots are on the Atlantic City boardwalk and when I think of AC I like to throw myself back to what it was like below: Pin ups, Miss America, and the most fabulous invention...the 2 piece bikini!

Dress: Falls, Turban: Forever 21, Bracelet/White ring/earrings: Kenneth Jay Lane for QVC, Necklace: Bebe, Shoes : Christian Louboutin

I have to say that I am really excited about the new Sex and the City movie and I cannot wait to see the styling! Bringing it to Abu Dhabi means lots of turbans, harem pants, and flowy maxis which perfectly fits my taste at the moment. I really wanted to do a themed shoot and the closest thing around me to the Middle East is the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. So here we are.

I had a hard time narrowing down the pictures so I just went all out. I feel a bit like Rachel Zoe in this dress and the zig zag pattern with the kaftan shape really does make me want to transport myself somewhere fabulous.

I just had lunch with Barry Ort, who I'm sure you've seen on QVC selling the delectable Kenneth Jay Lane baubles, and he was very nice to send me some of the jewelry that SATC bought for the movie! You may be seeing these exact pieces on one of the gals AND Barry will be doing a SATC Style QVC segment this Sunday on QVC! Make sure you tune in if you want to purchase some SATC style for an amazing price.
