The Great Weight Debate: Part II

Well the New Year really is starting out on a clean slate.  Right on the heels of my post yesterday, V Magazine releases images from their plus sized photo shoot from upcoming Issue #63.

So what do you think is more inspiring?  A former Miss Universe daring to strip down sans retouching or plus size models working it half naked for legendary photographer Solve Sundsbo?

Solve is very well-known for shooting some of the most influential models who have always been looked at as the standard of perfection and beauty in the fashion industry.  It is refreshing to hear him say that he "loved the opportunity to show that you can be beautiful and sexy outside the narrow interpretations that normally define us."

I commend anyone, regardless of shape or size, who can feel confident enough to publicly strip down, especially for a cause.  Some proceeds from Jennifer's Marie Claire cover will go to the Butterfly Foundation, which helps support women with eating disorders, while V Magazine is working hard to break down barriers or at least open up the discussion on body image and fashion.

Here are some preview pictures from the issue, which is out on newsstands January 14th:

And the irony to these two stories is that the Plus Size models have been photoshopped!

Finally! These girls look great! standing O for V mag for pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion editorial.

I mean, does there really have to be one extreme or another? Waif is too thin, and in my opinion this editorial is trying way too hard to prove a big fat point. Not very sexy. Remember when JPG sent those supremely overweight girls down the runway? Yikes.

What about featuring girls like you in editorials? Beautiful, healthy and totally real. Pluck stylish bloggers and let them model. That would be most inspiring!
